Noise-resistant Digital Euclidean Connected Skeleton for graph-based shape matching
نویسندگان
چکیده
The skeleton is an essential shape descriptor providing a compact representation of a shape that can be used in the context of real object recognition. However, due to the discretization, the required properties to use it for graph matching (homotopy to the shape, consequently connectivity, thinness, robustness to noise) may be difficult to obtain simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a new skeletonization algorithm having all these properties, based on the Euclidean distance map. More precisely, the algorithm cleverly combines the centers of maximal balls included in the shape and the ridges of the distance map. Post-processing is then applied to thin and prune the resulting skeleton. We compare the proposed method to three fairly recent methods and demonstrate its good properties. ! 2015 Elsevier Inc. Extracting Noise-Resistant Skeleton on Digital Shapes for Graph Matching
In order to match shapes using their skeletons, these ones should be thin, robust to noise, homotopic to the shape, consequently, connected. However, these properties are difficult to obtain simultaneously when the shape is defined on a discrete grid. In this paper, we propose a new skeletonization algorithm, which has all these properties. Based on the Euclidean distance map, the algorithm ext...
متن کاملOn growing connected β-skeletons
A β-skeleton, β ≥ 1, is a planar proximity undirected graph of an Euclidean points set, where nodes are connected by an edge if their lune-based neighbourhood contains no other points of the given set. Parameter β determines the size and shape of the lune-based neighbourhood. A β-skeleton of a random planar set is usually a disconnected graph for β > 2. With the increase of β, the number of edg...
متن کاملPlayers and Ball Detection in Soccer Videos Based on Color Segmentation and Shape Analysis
This paper proposes a scheme to detect and locate the players and the ball on the grass playfield in soccer videos. We put forward a shape analysisbased approach to identify the players and the ball from the roughly extracted foreground, which is obtained by a trained, color histogram-based playfield detector and connected component analysis. We employ Euclidean distance transform to extract sk...
متن کاملRecognition of shapes by morphological attributed relational graphs
Skeletons represent a powerful tool for qualitative shape matching because they resume, synthesize and help the understanding both of the object shape and of its topology. The aim of this work is mainly on using the potential strength of skeleton of discrete objects in computer vision and pattern recognition where features of objects are needed for classification. In this paper we propose a met...
متن کاملExtraction of the Euclidean skeleton based on a connectivity criterion
The skeleton is essential for general shape representation. The commonly required properties of a skeletonization algorithm are that the extracted skeleton should be accurate; robust to noise, position and rotation; able to reconstruct the original object; and able to produce a connected skeleton in order to preserve its topological and hierarchical properties. However, the use of a discrete im...
